The final question on the latest episode of The 1% Club had everyone competing for it absolutely stumped and resulted in nobody walking away with the prize pot.
That ITV quiz show we all know and love, where the clue for the answer is so often buried in the question, returned for another episode last night (3 May) and a whopping five contestants made it into the final round.
You know how the format goes, there’s 100 contestants answering progressively harder questions and for each one knocked out £1,000 is added to the prize pot, with options to throw your money into the pot to skip a question or to take your £1,000 and leave also becoming available.
Get through to the final round and you can collect your share of £10,000, which would have meant winning £2,000 each since there were five contestants, or bet it all on the hardest question of the night for a chance to win the pot.

Frankly, my dear reader, I didn’t get this one last night when I was playing along at home and watching the show.
I’d have needed to use my pass to get through a previous question anyway but on this final question I was left absolutely stumped, and it seems that the episode’s contestants shared my confusion as they all got it wrong.

Some of them didn’t put anything, others managed to scribble something down but were told by host Lee Mack that they were incorrect.
It turns out that the answer was ‘sea’, as it could be put in front of all of the capitalised words on there to make other words.
If you got it correct then award yourself a pat on the back, but let’s be honest, that’s a tricky one to get with the time pressure bearing down on you.
With the clock ticking down, you just don’t have time to consider all of the possibilities and if you haven’t landed on the correct answer in time you’re looking at walking away without any money.

Difficult questions are rather the point of the show, as there was another recent one percent question which went unanswered in the episode with the entire prize pot of £100,000 up for grabs.
As if that’s not enough for a brainteaser, there’s also the question which caused 46 players to use their pass.
