Only 30 Seconds — But Can You Spot Them All?— The 1% Club’s 4×4 Grid Puzzle Looks Easy Until Hidden Squares Catch Everyone Out!! Think You’ve Found All 32? Look Again! The 1% Club has another deceptively simple challenge: count every square hidden inside a 4×4 grid — and do it in just 30 seconds! The 16 smallest squares seem obvious, but the larger shapes are where things get tricky. Miss one combination or count the same square twice, and your confident answer could be completely wrong. Can you beat the clock and find every square?

The 1% Club’s “How Many Squares?” Puzzle Looks Easy — Until You Realize How Many You’ve Missed

A 4×4 grid, 16 small boxes and 30 seconds. It sounds like an easy challenge, but The 1% Club has a habit of turning simple-looking puzzles into surprisingly difficult tests of observation.

The question appears straightforward:

“How many squares are there in this image?”

At first, the obvious answer seems to be 32. There are 16 squares making up the main grid, plus another 16 smaller squares inside them.

But that is only part of the puzzle.

The real challenge is spotting all the larger squares created by combining the smaller sections. Once those are included, the total becomes much higher.

Start with the squares you can see

The main design is a 4×4 grid, which immediately gives you:

  • 16 individual 1×1 squares

Each of those grid sections also contains a smaller square, adding another:

  • 16 smaller squares

That brings the running total to:

16 + 16 = 32

It is an easy place to stop — and exactly where the puzzle starts to catch people out.

The larger squares change everything

The individual boxes can be grouped together to form larger squares.

Within the 4×4 grid, there are nine 2×2 squares. These can be positioned in three ways across the grid and three ways down:

3 × 3 = 9

That takes the running total to:

32 + 9 = 41

But there are still more to find.

Four 3×3 squares

The grid also contains four different 3×3 squares:

  • top-left
  • top-right
  • bottom-left
  • bottom-right

Adding those brings the count to:

41 + 4 = 45

And finally, the entire 4×4 grid forms one large square of its own.

That makes the total:

46 squares

The final breakdown

ITV gameshow fans blast 'easiest question ever' for £100,000 prize | Metro News

The main grid contributes:

  • 16 individual 1×1 squares
  • 9 2×2 squares
  • 4 3×3 squares
  • 1 complete 4×4 square

Together, those make:

16 + 9 + 4 + 1 = 30

Then come the 16 smaller squares inside the grid cells.

So the final calculation is:

30 + 16 = 46

The answer is 46

What makes the puzzle so deceptive is that the eye naturally focuses on the smallest, most obvious shapes. Once you start looking at combinations of several boxes, however, the number rises quickly.

That is the classic The 1% Club trick: the puzzle looks almost too simple at first, but finding every possible shape under time pressure is another matter entirely.

Would you have found all 46 squares in 30 seconds?
