ITV’s The Chase often brings us unexpectedly hilarious moments – but one in particular has left viewers seething.

One fan took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a clip from the programme, captioning it: “You have to see this to believe it.” Other viewers admitted to watching the snippet a few times and “still didn’t believe it”.

In the high-tension moment, presenter Bradley Walsh asked Chaser Jenny Ryan “Which confectionary company makes Revels?”. After a brief pause, she responds “Cadbury,” which was not the correct answer. But it is what one of the contestants did next that left people mortified.

Bradley said: “Stop the clock, that is wrong”, before repeating the question for the two contestants, a man and a woman. The woman said: “I can’t think of another…Mars?” before her teammate whispered: “Cadbury”, seemingly unaware the Chaser had already given that answer.

A baffled Walsh pointed to Ryan and said: “She said Cadbury”, as the camera panned to the Chaser. The host then revealed Mars was indeed the correct answer and pointed out the man’s teammate had given the correct answer. The man leant over to her to say “well done” as she tried not to laugh.

Taking to the comments people were outraged the man had congratulated his partner after giving the wrong answer on behalf of their team. Some joked he would be “in the dog house” while another tried to analyse his thought process. They wrote: “To be fair, I’m pretty sure the answer is Cadbury. Maybe give ‘Cadbury’ one more try and see what he says.”

“It’s how he says it with so much conviction. Followed up with the ‘well done’ afterwards”, another added. Someone joked he was an “incredible b****nd”.

Others defended him, however, chiming in: “It is the stress to be fair. Plus the adrenaline, they probably can’t hear her answer very well. So it’s designed to make people make mistakes which is why the chaser didn’t rip into them.”
