Umbrella Uproar! King Charles Left Soaking and Fuming in a Royal Rainstorm as Camilla Gets Cover First — and His Frantic Demands Leave Aides Scrambling!

King Charles Left Fuming In Antigua Downpour As He Repeatedly Demands: “Where’s The Umbrella?”

King Charles III was left standing in a torrential downpour during a royal engagement in Antigua, repeatedly gesturing towards his aides and asking where his umbrella was as Queen Camilla managed to get hers.

The awkward moment unfolded during the 45th annual Antigua and Barbuda Independence Parade, where the royal couple found themselves caught in an unexpected burst of heavy rain.

Charles and Camilla arrived at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium shortly before 6.30pm local time. But moments after stepping onto the dais, the heavens opened, forcing the couple and those attending the ceremony to scramble for cover.

Camilla Gets Her Umbrella While Charles Is Left Waiting

Queen Camilla, dressed in a white Anna Valentine gown, quickly turned towards her staff to request an umbrella.

After signalling several times, a personal protection officer rushed over with her familiar clear umbrella, allowing her to make her way to the sheltered seating area and continue watching the parade.

Charles, however, appeared to have been overlooked.

While Camilla was already under cover, the King remained exposed to the relentless rain. He repeatedly gestured towards his aides and was heard asking: “Where’s the umbrella?”

The moment was captured on camera as the visibly soaked monarch waited for someone to come to his assistance.

Eventually, his equerry hurried over with a compact black umbrella, giving Charles some protection as he headed towards the centre of the cricket ground to inspect the Guard of Honour.

The King Carries On With The Ceremony Despite The Rain

The heavy downpour did little to interrupt the King’s official duties.

Standing on a small dais, Charles inspected dozens of troops lined up at attention on the cricket pitch, which had been transformed into a parade ground for the independence celebrations.

With the rain still falling, he continued the inspection before making his way back under the protection of his umbrella.

The crowds greeted him with cheers, just as they had when he first arrived. Charles responded with a wave, acknowledging the warm reception.

Fortunately, the sudden downpour disappeared almost as quickly as it had started. After lasting around five minutes, the rain stopped, allowing the remainder of the celebrations to continue in dry conditions.

Charles later made light of his soaking clothes, joking: “I’ve started growing watercress on my trousers.”

Charles And Camilla Meet Antiguans Recognised For Their Service

Following the parade, the King and Queen met prominent individuals who had been recognised for their contributions to Antigua and Barbuda.

The group represented a broad range of public life, including culture, sport, education and community service.

Their visit forms part of Charles and Camilla’s wider Caribbean tour, with the King arriving in Antigua on Friday ahead of a Commonwealth summit scheduled to open on Tuesday.

The Royal Tour Takes On The Legacy Of Slavery

The nine-day Caribbean visit has also placed renewed attention on the historical legacy of slavery.

When Charles arrived in the Bahamas on Tuesday, the first stop of the tour, he acknowledged the “great suffering of the past” and confirmed that discussions about slavery’s legacy would feature at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).

Antigua is hosting the summit, which is expected to be dominated by conversations surrounding the transatlantic slave trade and its lasting consequences.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham has offered “structured dialogue” with those affected by the trade, expressing his “sorrow and regret for the pain and suffering of so many millions”.

The parade was hit by a deluge

However, he has ruled out considering financial reparations.

Antigua’s prime minister has also expressed his great respect for Charles, who remains the country’s head of state, while previously speaking about the possibility of Antigua becoming a republic.

Against that wider backdrop, the King’s visit combines ceremonial engagements with discussions about some of the most difficult chapters in the Commonwealth’s shared history.
